[Not exactly a replica
of] For years, it's been the common perception that, despite coming up from nowhere to become the leading online service provider in the mid-to-late 90s, and despite revolutionizing the way we keep in touch with our buddies (I'M TALKING AOL INSTANT MESSENGER, PEOPLE!!!), AOL SUCKS. And now I'm gonna say it; AOL SUCKS. Until recent years, I have loyally defended the choice I made on Saint Patrick's Day of 1997, and have witnessed a decent deal of AOL's strides and trips. Using AOL's Personal Publisher, I was even able to make my first marks on the WorldWide when I launched my very first "page" in the spring, on this very spot. It's not "CastleVania III: The Passwords" I'm referring to here, folks; it was a list of Favorite Places with a bitmap (never able to upload) of an AT-ST from Star Wars III. Since my first huge site's emigration from this 2 megabyte web space (one of AOL's perks) eight years ago, members.aol.com/Sinyaso has been the springboard from which visitors launched headlong into the greatness of CastleVania III. Down the line and across the domains, I'd use this address to direct to the most current locations of other websites, like CVInteractive and DYNAKYRIS. However, the powers-that-have-been (since 2004, at least?) decided about a month ago to cancel the 2MB-per-screenname stip for even their most long-standing members, and, incidentally, this springboard without any actual explanation... What exactly does this mean for you, the viewer? Probably nothing, except for the fact that any attempt to hit this spot on November 1 will probably lead to some sort of 404 or worse; AOL Spam. In 2006, I finally came into my own with TerribleHands.com, and this spot has since been a direct jumpoff to DCTP, BRTP, Contra INSANELY DIFFICULT CORPS, CastleVania Interactive (which is supposed to be archived @ ICVD) and DYNAKYRIS. (Statcounter continues to inform of the hits originating from /Sinyaso and /Dynakyris.) Here, from the inside, I stand to lose a few things. Aside from the convenience of lost pals finding me via this jumpoff, any HTML tags across the ages that've summoned imagery hosted on my names will instead summon that broken-image icon; that sucks, because I liked seeing my EZBoard posts looking the same way they did seven years ago. That's just me, though. (. . . and adding more to DCTP's Linx Graveyard [still under construction] after recently sweeping the whole list is gonna be ounces of fun. . .) So take heed. Update your bookmarks. Blablablablabla... http://members.aol.com/Sinyaso/ http://members.aol.com/Dynakyris/ (By the way, here is DCTP's Hidden Link, which, thanks to the stupidity of this new AOL, will also cease to be. :( If you'd like to be immortalized at the bottom of this page as a Master Hunter, just e-mail me with your name, as well as the time and date of your 'discovery'.) |
