"Oh, are we gonna start counting now?" once asked Babs Bunny.
"Yeah," I said. Then Di Gi Charat's
Usada came in and commenced a rap battle. Only that moon shining brightly
above could say who would emerge victorious...

Count
Gohan (c.4-18-1997)
This is gonna need some background...
Ah, early 1997: when the Cardigans' Love Fool and Savage Garden's
I Want You were fresh hits on Z100, the Dungeon was new, CastleVania
III: Dracula's Curse was back in full effect, and Blue Chun Li physically
challenged Red Chun Li in a Zenkure GIF. Through
my Junior year at Cardinal Hayes High School, no characters, beside Al
B Pri and Comrade, were ever more prominent and memorable than the Senior
we called by name; Louie, a.k.a Rain. This rarity of an East-Indian-looking
Puerto Rican with big hair was the grand master of comedy and coolness
in the back of my Earth Science class. (How I, a Junior, had been transferred
to a Senior class, I don't recall; whatever the case, it was all for the
better.) I remember the good times of cracking jokes in the back of the
class, his inside scoop on The Lost World: Jurassic Park, and the
way he pretended to crumble when shown that infamous laser printout of
Minerva Mink from Animaniacs. A fan of Star Wars (as we all were),
and videogames, Louie was also down with the great anime back in the day.
Being a fan of Dragonball Z, he drew this Count Gohan in my drawing book
between April 14 and 18, 1997.
Louie was THE MAN!
LooiVania
(c. 5-1-1997)
Shortly after buying CastleVania III for $15 from another student and
recording some game footage, I loaned him the VHS tape which showed, amongst
part of a poorly-recorded episode of Tiny Toon Adventures' "Duck
in the Dark", the Skull Knight being taken out by a row of Holy Waters
and a Final Battle with Dracula. When I asked him to draw a picture of
what he saw, he gave me this on an 8 1/2'' by 11'' page the following
day. The Punisher symbols replacing the 'Heads' skulls was a nice testament
to his Marvel tastes. Meanwhile, R2-D2 and Chewbacca are just 'hanging
out'.
Alucard
(8-23-1997)
DCTP Advisor Andy's wicked drawing
of a CastleVania Symphony-style Alucard clutching the skull of a bloody
Red Skeleton chained to the wall in the background. It dates back to August
23, 1997! The hidden message? "Yeah, it's true I'm morbid."
Get 'em, Sypha! (1998?)
For all you Sypha fans out there, Sypha, with the smile on her face, uses
the Ball Lightning spell, about to put away a Fire Man, Fire Ghosts, Medusa
Heads, and a Slime in this awesome GIF'd bitmap! How'd they do it? I'd
pass the details along once I get their e-mail address...I
lost it by accident.
Goofy
Dracula (1998?)
A really cool watercolor (???) painting of Dracula giving you THE eye.
Did you make this? I lost your e-mail
address!
Slogra (SotN Edition) (12-13-1998)
Slogra waves his trident in the air in Anne
Felis' Slogra drawing for the DCTP Fan Art Gallery! HOW DOES SHE DO
IT? Mad skill.
Diplocephalus (1999)
One of Anne's first fully fledged
CGs is a PHAT rendition of the monstrous Diplocephalus from Symphony of
the Night. Symphony experts can tell its location by the background.
YEAH,
BABY! (c.6-26-2000)
Clint's gory depiction
of Slogra skewering a certain, hapless, blue Belmont!
Skeletal Gargoyle (2000?)
A very fine sketch of CastleVania III's flying Skeletal Gargoyle that
really does look game accurate! Did you
make this? I lost your e-mail address!
Slogra RULES! (c.2000)
To go along with the lyrics to his spoof, "Die,
die, Damn Belmonts", DCTP Advisor
Andy crafted this Macintosh bitmap of Slogra scooping up Trevor's
guts!
When worlds collide: CastleVania
III Dracula's Curse THE CAR! (c.8-23-2000)
Mike Erickson blesses us with an
awesome new lowrider patterned after DCTP's Title Screen! This one is
a TRUE CG. Love the digital coloring, perspective tricks and sprite work!
Slogra's at the wheel, Gaibon peeks at our model Akane, all done in the
tradition of Lowrider Magazine! Scope out Trevor, by Ruff! "Swing
down, sweet chariot, stop, and let me ride!"(550k .wav)
Sloggy (9-5-2000)
In Catastrophe's seriously
awesome piece, Slogra shrieks in triumph over a Phantom Bat!
CV3 Art (3-14-2002)
As you might recall from HIT ME!, Dee
& Maria are the awesome sisters Downyard who've helped celebrate
DCTP hit milestones with their equally awesome Hit Gift arts! To mark
85,000 visits in 2002, they went so far as to make me a Slogra shirt!
Included with the awesome apparel was the following scene that would bring
another smile...
Valdis (2008)
Silver Onith's original concept
for a CastleVanian creature...is the result of one really bad day! According
to their Monster Dictionary, it all started when this one chick, a real
religious freak, cursed out some witches who were just doing their witch
thing. To get back at her, they sent out a troublesome Imp that made her
do some pretty embarrassing things in broad daylight. When she learned
the witches to be the cause of her problem, she had them burned at the
stake. However, their spirits lived on, soon taking up residence in the
girl's body, eventually transforming her into what you see here. The entry
also goes on to describe this recurring evil as a free agent, possibly
plotting to take over CastleVania itself! As the Imp's influence remains
dominant, it can cause an afflicted hero to do some pretty messy stuff,
be it comrade-killing (in multi-character scenarios) or shedding their
own garbs to go for a run (an enemy-stunning tactic?). Such a formidable
being is not without its weakness; if the hero can cause a disagreement
between Valdis' multiple personalities, that should buy enough time to
either get some giggles or GET OUT OF THERE!
Harpie (2009)
Silver Onith's wild rendition
of one of my favorite beasties.
