Hall of Blame

It was no party getting through Stage 9 of Super CastleVania 4 to get new snaps of this man-o-the-while, the Zapf Bat. This is another member of Dracula's Phantom Bat Species, others including the Phantom Bat, Big Bad Phantom Bat, Myotia, Darkwing Bat, and probably the Death Bat. They probably got the name for Zapf Bat from the term Zapf DingBats, a Windoze font that probably existed around the time Super CastleVania 4 was made. Phantom Bats are identified by their cool smiles! :D

After going through the Treasury at CastleVania, you pass a hall of ghosts (like in Disney World), face golden skeletons which, seemingly are the only enemies which drop anything, save the bone dragons who give hearts and $ later on, and go up a vertical area, you finally come to a lone pile of gold coins and jewels. A strange air fills the room, the coins go gray and they rise to form the Zapf Bat! Attack quickly, Simon, with your 8 way whip! Whip vertically and avoid the pieces that will fall off with every hit; they'll hurt you, but not the smaller ones which flake off during flapping. After some fighting, the Giant Coin Bat Boss will divide into three, trademark of the Big Bad Phantom Bat, and the small ones will drop small coins to annoy you with coin damage. Hit them and avoid their pieces, too. When the Zapf Bat dies, the room lights up with zapfs...ZAPS, and a stairway will lead you to the Clock Tower! Cool Character of the Week, the Giant Coin Bat Bo$$, the Zapf Bat!
