[WORKS]
NEVER
GIVE UP: This Demo Reel of sorts presents examples of what
I've done since my return to Flash in 2001 up to 2006. It also means to inspire those who are just starting out, as I had great difficulty making sense of it all early on.
ParoVadius
RESET: The
first chapter of a multi-episode epic set in the universe of the
great videogames I grew up on. 2005's ParoVadius RESET is
also a complete overhaul of ParoVadius, my first big work from 2002. While most of the imagery used originates from several games, the scenario and villain are my own.
After
ParoVadius: A summer before ParoVadius RESET took off,
I presented a slightly askew conclusion to the previously unseen story of the original (as revealed in the intro). This work also happened to be one of my first experiences in voiceover direction and was tuned with an enhanced presentation in early 2008.
One
of THOSE Days...: Have you ever had one of THOSE
days? Here, Red doesn't just get mad, he gets even.
Since its debut in 2003, much of its audience continues to relate.
BACK
OFF.: A stalker gets what he deserves in this short, completed
in the summer of 2006.
Commercial
Break: During a break in our "taped radio" show,
my co-host improvised a commercial for my CD player of the time.
I felt the result was worth animating.
Di
Gi CRAP: The mascot of an animation and game shop in Japan is fed up with her sidekick in this brutal parody of its animated
ads.
WTF.TERRIBLEHANDS.COM!:
A random animation I put together for the debut of TerribleHands.com in the winter of 2006. It's based on a skit in which a Japanese voice actor explains how her hands are her favorite body part: "...when I cover my face I look prettier!" (Not that I could tell at the time...)
FREE
PREVIEW: A stickdude realizes what's free isn't always good in this piece, which shortly followed the completion of Fwoopy! below.
Fwoopy!:
Based on a submission to my CastleVania III fansite, this piece from the summer of 2004 was my first Flash animation to feature a simulated
camera and comprehensive DVD-style extras...remember those?
ICVD
Frashtro: Executed in the summer of 2002, this is an animated intro for the Inverted CastleVania Dungeon website, an online
community dedicated to the CastleVania series. The
various characters seen refer to notable members through the years.
...on
the way...: A teaser animation for this site before its summer 2003 debut.
[ANIMATION TECHNIQUES]
BONEZ977:
I make use of keyframing and tweening to simulate Inverse Kinematics;
attempted early 2003.
Galamoth
Animation Testing: An attempt to animate the 30-piece beast Galamoth from the 1997 PlayStation game, CastleVania: Symphony
of the Night. The dreams of IK and Rigging in Flash were nearly a decade away when I tooled to this end in 2002.
BRIT: This very angry stickdude is brought to life through a dozen parts and
wields a simple pistol rendered in 3D Studio Max 4.
Simple
Character Animation: This cheery vampire bat is another example
of a parts-animated character.
Destruct
of the STAC Ship (Test): The enemy ship featured in ParoVadius
fatally goes out with a BIG bang. The sequence later returns to set the stage for After ParoVadius.
Gaibon's Death:
Improving upon this character's original death, a Mask was used to give the impression of its flesh burning away.
The graphics are from Konami's 1991 Super NES game, Super CastleVania
IV.
Jump Up: Created to explain how to improve the jump poses of a friend's 3D Studio Max character, this demonstration quickly
developed into a fun keyframing practice.
Sword: A
simple animation of a slashing blade.
