Groovy-Type Stuff!

This Miscmix section of DCTP houses the REALLY bizzare CastleVania-related things, such as character/item sightings, CastleVania references from elsewhere, and MUCH more. On 5-18-2001, now sorted by year!

[On 8-30-2001, the 2001 chapter available seperately, as that thing got too freakin' BIG. ]

[On 10-7-2001, added its tasty new backdrop along with several images.]

Groovy-Type Stuff from 1997!

Let us all thank Kurt Kalata, who on October 10, 1997, set if off by pointing these three things out to me, and now to you...

1. In Super Castlevania 4, check the names of some of the boss characters! The giant skull, Puweyxil, spelled backwards sounds like "Licks you up"!!!!! And for the rock monster Koranot, you get Ton o' Rock(s)"!!!! Try it with some of the others. Slogra<---> Argols? Uh....no?

2. Dracula did score. You meet his wife (and Alucard's mother) in Symphony. [Okay, okay, saying that he didn't score was only for comedy purposes, only.]

3. On the subject of bosses and their names,
Rowdain is like a skeletal jousting knight, right? He probably got his name from Gawain, one of Arthur's Knights of the Round Table!

More stuff I discovered....

Richter can moonwalk! In Dracula X, for Snes, hit the Y button (attack button) and DON'T release it. Now, walk back. Wee! Moonwalker! This move is okay for when you are fighting some thing you dont want hittin you from behind as you run away from it.

''Moon Rod...WTF?''Sailormoon fans! There is an item in Symphony of the Night called the 'Moon Rod'. It looks just like the moon rod Usagi uses! Woo! Actually, the Moon Rod may be Sailor Sypha's, heh heh...

Sypha fans! In Symphony, in the Reverce Coliseum, the Inverted one, you'll fight the dudes from the Allies section, Trevor, Grant, and Sypha! Check it. Sypha uses spells such as a freezing wind (Ice) a massive straight shooting Flame Toungue (Fire), and after a while, Boomerang shaped Lightning Waves (Lightning). Get the pesty Grant out of the way, then kill Trevor. Sypha will then proceed to RESURRECT her love as a zombie!

Meet Your Team of Alucard Hunters!

In Dracula's last form in Symphony, look to your right. See on the throne? Look! It's H.R. Giger's Alien! Like the ones in Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, and Alien Resurrection! Dracula's last form truly is a concoction of nightmares!

Groovy-Type Stuff from 1998!

Is it weird that Alucard has had lots of...female friends in the past? First it was Sonia Belmont, from the upcoming CastleVania Legends (USA ver.) then Sypha in Vany 3, then Maria in Symphony!! What's next?! Playah!

Direct your attention to the image on the left. Kid Dracula and some pink dude name Draculakun make an appearance in Parodius 2!!!

Direct your attention to the image at the right. The White Skeleton on the CastleVania 3 label? He also appears on the art for Monster in my Pocket! He must have a career in posing for game cart art (yeah, yeah, I know they were done by the same artist...)!

Oh yeah...speaking of Dracula's throne... you see that fish-looking thing on your bottom right of the thing? Doesn't he look like that demon guy from 3x3 eyes?

In Symphony of the Night, there IS life after being stoned! Let one of those stoning Medusa Heads, the yellow ones, hit you. Press DOWN on the controllo pad, and when you land, you MAY transform into a terribly terrific Demon statue! Cool! Thanks to Jason for discovering this exciting tidbit!

In Contra: The Hard Corp., go to Stage 3. Before you blast the entrance to a hall which leads to Noiman Cascade, the computer hacking boss, climb up the wall above the hall entrance. Keep going up, and you'll run into some weird droid wearing blue. He'll ask if you want to battle in the arena for cash an' prizes! Agree, and you'll go into the battle arena! Listen! A souped up rock version of the tune Vampire Killer rings in the distance! Into the room steps in...A BELMONT DROID WITH A MEGA AFRO! He'll use his arm cannon, which contains a whip, to blast a candle with a fish in it. The battle begins! He'll leap and whip, and occasionally will toss the fish to act as a Boomerang! I won't spoil the rest for you, so keep blasting away!

Like it says...

Another Symphony thing! While in the Coliseum, go to the lower reaches where you meet Paranthropus. In the background, it's the bull creature, which chases you in Dracula X for the PC Engine and yet again in Dracula X for the Super Nintendo.

Great news! A CastleVania Anthology exists for PlayStation!!! Sort of. In the inverted castle, you'll face the 5 bosses, modified, of CastleVania 1. You'll have to capture Dracula's 5 body parts to open up the clock, that's CastleVania 2. You battle Trevor and friends in the Coliseum, from CV3, Gaibon and Slogra, the two devil knights of Death, seem to appear before Death himself in the Cave, like those two did in Super CastleVania 4, though not in the same order! From Bloodlines...who cares about Bloodlines, anyway? From Dracula X, it's Richter! If you got your Symphony, you have an anthology!

''Hee hee...I'm so cute! FEAR MEE!!!!''

''Let's move!''Befriend the Bone Dragon King! In Symphony, make it into the upside down Castle Entrance. There, you'll find something called Oroborous. This is ACTUALLY THE BONE DRAGON KING under another alias! You see a little Mole Man riding on the King's horned head? Avoid hitting the King and strike down the stupid flea! If done correctly, the Bone Dragon King's colors will change from gray to gold, and he'll deliver damage to anything he rams into!

Go to the Necromancy Laboratory to fight Beelzebub! Try not to go for his other parts, try to go for only the head on this one. You can fly to it and turn back to Alucard. On your way down you can strike his head. It'll take a few minutes, but if you kill him by the head, you will bask in the awesome glory of the head, arms, hands, legs, and stinky feet raining down upon you in a spectacular light show! That is just too sweeeeeet!

Chop off Count Olrox's hands! When Count Olrox turns into the Tall One, try slashing at his hands for a while. They'll disappear with an axe armor's death animation for a moment, and will regenerate!

Ah, finally something about Dracula's Curse! The Medusa Queen is not present in Dracula's Curse, but you do fight her guard, the Snake Man Sentinel. Look at it. It looks too buff to be the Queen. Anyway, my made up explanation for Dracula's second Heads form is as follows: When Queen Medusa arrived at CastleVania via the Haunted Ship of Fools before Trevor, Count Dracula and the Queen merged their souls prior to the Big Battle and made Dracula's second form. Check the snake hair! Drac is the Medusa King!

''OH MY GOD!! THE GOLDEN KNIFE?! NOOOOOOOOOooo!!!!!''Try to make it into the Mad Forest, the Forest of Darkness, with Grant DaNasty! In the area with the mist, use your stabbing dagger. See? It's turned into a golden dagger! Some computer scientist by the name of Lyndon, heh heh, says it must be a palette switch of some nature. Could be, or maybe Konami wants to remind us of the Golden Knife of Simon's Quest?

Help Richard lose weight. After Dracula X, Richter Belmont gained several pixels during his conversion to Symphony. Now you can help him lose all that. In Symphony of the Night, equip the GOLD CIRCLET as your head...thing. This restores HP (Hit Points))..HUSH PUPPY by Holy moly (molly?)damage. Just make sure to have this on before the fight. During the fight, just stand there and let Richter whip away at you. With each hit, you'll get, like, 47HP back! Now, I don't know where the Gold Circlet is, maybe the Librarian Dude will sell it to you, maybe it's a drop item, I forget. I was playing a saved lucky game at the Catacombs and went to Richard from there. This lucky game leads me to...

...Adrian Fahrenheight Tepes is Xena Warrior Princess! The Discus Lord...try defeating him in the Catacombs several times...or more. He'll drop the Chakram, Sikh Steel Throwing Ring. This is a disc...disk...aw, what does it matter, that when thrown, will return to you. It's green, leaves echoes when thrown, and has an okay range. I just got this thing now, so I don't know all the tricks yet.

Adrian Fahrenheight Tepes is Bishojou Senshi Sailornocturneinthemoonlight! Look, in Symphony of the Night, there's this Moon Rod. If you play around with the directional controls, I think it's down-down forward-forward-strike, and use the weapon, the Moon Rod will send a band of about 5 crescent moons to take out enemies! This is most useful for thrashing the um...final guards positioned at the Black Marble Gallery. Get that Level Up!

I've got Dracula X Nocturne in the Moonlight! I also rented Devil Hunter Yohko. I've long since beaten DX, but I was totally blown away when I heard Count Dracula in Devil Hunter Yohko! There was a voice over there that sounded like him, but the character never showed. At the credits, it read "Voice of Devil------Mugibito" . That had to be the credit, as there was no other voice over character in the cast list. I jotted that name down to scrapped loose leaf and beat Degeneration X Nocturne in the Moonlight by flykicking Drac on the head, and I was disappointed to not find the Mugibito credit in the game's cast list! Dracula and the Devil's voice sounded so similar, they just HAD to be! Can anyone help me with this? Ack!

Matt Wyatt sez... I was recently playing Breath of Fire 3 for the PSX, when I noticed that when you hit someone in a town with your sword, sometimes they will drop some "zenny" (BOF 3's name for money) which looks almost identical to the money in Castlevania : Symphony of the Night.

I wanna give a shout out to the Grim Reaper? I just wanted to congratulate him on his latest Combat Quick Kill roach trap commercial. There.

In Contra 3: The Alien Wars, a big disk-shaped cloud descends on...Neo City, I think it is, and it shoots a beam of light straight down to the city. The beam charges up, then blows the city away. Note that Contra 3 was released in 1992. ID4 prototype, anyone?

''Woooo! 10 years and still on top! Eat it, Slow-Gra!''    ''GAAMMME....OOOVER....WU HA HA HA HA HA HA HAAA.....''

The Skull Knight? The first Ultimate Evil in Dracula's Curse? He makes an appearance in Symphony of the Night! Not as a friend, not as a foe, but as the GAME OVER screen!!!

Rico.....Swavay....In Contra Hard Corps, go after Deadeye Joe, then later, choose to Surrender and fight later. Colonel Bahamut will quote Alucard! Or rather, ALUCARD QUOTES BAHAMUT! Bahamut says: "Farewell, well not meet again." See?

As if that last little bit about Devil Hunter Yohko voices in Dracula X wasn't enough, I'll just say that the voice of the Master Librarian in Dracula X appears in Devil Hunter Yohko 2, as some old dude by the bus stop. For proof, I can e-mail you both the Master Librarian and Old Dude voices, kay?

Yeah, I called Alucard a girl earlier. He's starting to bug me...

Groovy-Type Stuff from 2000!

In Gunbird 2, the arcade and Sega DreamCast sequel to Psikyo's most entertaining shooter this side of Parodius, you can play as a character called ALUCARD! Don't beleive me?

''I am a pimp. Feel my power. Come to me, Marion. Look into my eyes...look into my...ahhh, yes, Marion. That's it...yes... Uh huh huh huh huh huh, that was cool. Yeah, yeah, heh heh m heh.''

Read it and cry! Just like Balky said in a Perfect Strangers episode. Here's the catch. This title is being released under the CAPCOM label, AND Morrigan is in it! WHAT IS GOING ON HERE? Does this mean we'll see an 'Alucard' in Marvel Vs. Capcom III? We can't yet say, but Scott Helfrich elucidates that there indeed was an 'Alucard' in one of those black and white horror movies, and the role was taken on by Lon Chaney...but still...THIS ONE LOOKS EVEN PIMPIER THAN SYMPHONY'S AL! WAAAAGH HA HA HA HA HAAAAA! No offense, Ayami Kojima-sempai...your art still dominates. This was discovered in the Japanese Weekly Dreamcast Magazine Volume 9, March 17 2000 issue. For more ridiculous hilarity, click the words "Magazine scan" for a 200kb scan of the advertisement on the back of that same issue! Magazine scan. You needn't take notes on where Alucard has been conveniently placed. All I can say is that he's just happy to be there.

Yeah, I just wanted to shout out the Grim Reaper again. He appeared in a commercial for one of those S-U-V things. His career's on a roll! Go, Grim Reaper!

Continue on to 2001, the Year in WHATTHE?!
